Amed is a string of fishing villages along Bali's northeast coast, known for its spectacular snorkeling, diving, and unbeatable sunrise views over Mount Agung and the Lombok Strait. This remote stretch of coastline remains refreshingly undeveloped compared to the south — here, traditional jukung fishing boats still line the black sand beaches.
Things to Do
The USS Liberty Shipwreck at nearby Tulamben is one of the world's most accessible wreck dives — just 30 meters from shore in shallow water, making it perfect for both snorkelers and divers. The coral gardens along Amed's coast are vibrant and teeming with marine life. Japanese Shipwreck, Pyramid, and Coral Garden are popular dive sites just offshore.
Sunrise and Scenery
Amed's east-facing coast offers some of Bali's most dramatic sunrises. Watch the sun climb over Mount Rinjani on Lombok while fishing boats head out for the morning catch. The drive along the coast road reveals panoramic views at every turn.
Practical Tips
Amed is about a 2.5-hour drive from the airport. We recommend combining a visit with stops in Sidemen and Tirta Gangga for a multi-day east Bali itinerary. The village has simple but charming guesthouses and excellent local seafood warungs. Bring reef-safe sunscreen for snorkeling.
